Dutch temptations in the Zwarte Tulp museum

The Zwarte Tulp Museum in Lisse shows almost eighty works of art and objects from the collection of the National Service for Cultural Heritage in the winter months.

All these works are related to the bulb culture in the Netherlands. Many pieces are shown to the public for the first time. Because of their story, color and shape, the works are extremely tempting. Yet for various reasons they are hardly known to the public. For example recovered (robbery) art and art from embassies.

'Hollandse Verleidingen' takes the visitor along exciting vanitas still lifes by, among others, Hans Bollongier and famous tulip vases from De Grieksche A to modern times with Jan Sluijters and Leon Senf, tulip vases by Jan van der Vaart and pop art art by Reinier Lucassen. The collection is supplemented with items from De Zwarte Tulp's own collection and extra loans such as from Erik Andriesse.

The exhibition is composed around three themes: flower still lifes, bulb fields and Dutch Design design, and three dates: 1650, 1920 and 1980. At these historical moments the arts flourished in seductive colors, shapes and performances for many enthusiasts and buyers in their own time, but also for today's art admirers.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a children's book by Ceciel de Bie and Reinoud Leenen about the tulip and the bulb culture. Lectures and other activities are organized during the exhibition. For more information, visit museumdezwartetulp.nl.

The exhibition has been made possible in part by the Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage, Fonds 1818, J.C. Ruigrok Foundation, Andriesse Eyck Gallery, De Witte Zwaan Collection and the Ondernemersfonds Lisse.
